Castello del Terriccio
The Castello del Terriccio estate is one of the most beautifully situated along the entire coastal region, some miles north of Bolgheri. The 60 hectares of vines enjoy wonderful exposure, overlooking the sea, benefitting from its warmth and brightness. The vineyards are surrounded by 'maquis' and eucalyptus trees, which as well as protecting them, also contribute to the aromas and scents that so characterise the Terriccio wines. Planted predominately with Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Syrah, the wines are made by consultant oenologist Carlo Ferrini, who has to date brought thirteen 'Tre Bicchiere' awards to the estate. These are wines that can be approached almost immediately and yet age so well over a decade and more.
Owned by the extraordinarily charming Cav. Gian Annibale Rossi di Medelana Serafini Ferri, once a talented horseman and still a passionate breeder.

Made from all of the 'declassified' wines that do not make it into Lupicaia, Castello and Tassinaia, this is very much the 'second' wine of the estate (I referred to it as the 'illegitimate brother' which failed to raise a smile...). Given a very similar treatment in the cellar, this is something of a bargain, for all of its immediate soft fruit, sweet oak and crisp tannins. All in all, an immensely attractive and elegant wine which will have tremendous... (more info)

Many of our longer standing customers may well remember the 'Con Vento' label from when we fisrt introduced the Terriccio estate wines. After a number of years of uncertainty on the white wine front, Pucci has at last appointed the rather lovely and extremely able Graziana Grassini (also oenologist at Magliano and Albert Longo) to oversee the white wines at Terriccio. She has turned out a very lovely, aromatic and fruit driven Sauvignon which we are... (more info)

A truly spectacular vintage of Tassinaia and one which may even eclipse the magnificent 2001 and 2004 vintages. Keep this for a year or two and drink it over the following decade. Or do what everybody else is doing and drink it now!

Syrah, blended with Petit Verdot and other red varieties. Big and rich, and powerfully structured.

A blend of Syrah, Petit Verdot, Tannat and Mourvèdre aged in French oak. Marked by balsamic, spice and violet aromas, with dense, blackberry, blackcurrant and chocolate flavours on the palate with a subtle mint note. The silky tannins and long finish make this incredibly long on the finish. Only the fourth vintage for this wine, but each has been awarded 'Tre Bicchiere'.

We loved this vintage of Terriccio's Syrah and Mourvedre blend, which brings a great twist to the estate's Cabernet based wines. Fresh and focussed fruit make the wine stand out.

Terriccio's top wine, Lupicaia, might well be considered to be ambitiously priced, but this vintage is looking so good it is quite difficult not to say it is worth it. We just wish it were a little less expensive so that we could sell more, but then we would say the same about Bordeaux. A classic Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Suavignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, aged eighteen months in new 'barriques', this is treated very much like a top Bordeaux but... (more info)
