Cellier de Marjorine
Christophe Lagarde took control of the family property in 1989, and having previously sold all of the estate's grapes to the local co-operative, made the decision in 2007 to make their own wines at the estate. Of the total 28 hectares planted he has selected only the best 12, most of which are classified as AOC Corbieres, for the estate wines.

2009 PIED DE NEZ Cellier de Marjorine
IGP Aude Languedoc-Roussillon France
Supple characterful medium-bodied red from this young Corbières producer. A well-defined lightly smokey ripe blackberry fruit with tannins that are present but ripe and satisfying rather than painfully grippy, making for a great weekday supper or bistro wine. More serious than the jokey label implies, but to be enjoyed rather than worshipped.

2009 GENERATION 3 Corbières Cellier de Marjorine
Languedoc-Roussillon France
Christophe Lagarde is the third generation on this family property, and is rightly proud of this which arrived as an unsolicited sample after we had rejected his 2008 last year. Round and juicy, it is civilised for a Corbières (which can be rustic in the extreme), and had good complex dark fruit and garrigue notes and a lovely supple balance.

2010 PIED DE NEZ Cellier de Marjorine
IGP Aude Languedoc-Roussillon France
In a big tasting in the L&S offices of some significantly more expensive wines which failed to pass the test, this stood out, much as the 2009 had done, for its unforced elegance. OK it's a simple country wine, but it is done with such panache, and both of us just went 'well, we can imaging drinking this no problem'. Supple and mid-weight, juicy and with a good core of dry black fruit, it is perfect all year round satisfying mid-week wine.
