Château l'Arrosée

The 9ha estate of Château l'Arrosée is enjoying a renaissance under the ownership of Roger and Jean-Philippe Caille who bought the property in 2002. A new winery was completed in 2004 with the aim of taking l'Arrosée back to its glory days in the 19th Century when it was among the leading lights of St Emilion.

The vineyards are planted with 60% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and, very unusually for St Emilion, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Cailles of l'Arrosée constructed a prototype circular sorting table this year, and patented it. A good year for it, since here as everywhere careful sorting was needed, and about 10% was discarded from the already low 34hl/ha yield. The principle is that of an airport baggage reclaim belt, the grapes stay on the table going round and round until someone makes the positive decision to put them into the vat, rather than traditional tables which...
