Domaine Bruno Lorenzon

One of life's movers and shakers, Bruno was also involved in a cooperage and while he has now left, he retains the distribution rights in South Africa, where he also makes wine. His small domaine is kept like a garden, and he makes completely exceptional wines almost for the pleasure of being able to. Bruno says "emotion is the key" in making wine exciting.

A nose of purest ripe fruit underpinned by minerals. Pure firm-skinned dark cherry. Chewy richness which develops chocolatey, pain d'épices complexity, all with the fruit. Tasted a second time as a bottled wine, there is a very immediate and natural nose, little red and black berries with a gently tugging undertow of tannin. Undergrowth and humus, and yet precise as a jewel. Very silky texture - a lovely gentle scented style.

A blend of vineyards and barrels, they like to say 'élevé comme un parfum', which to me does not give quite the right image, but you can feel someone has really had fun here, assembling a complex completeness. Little sweet notes of fruit, chocolate, leather. Delicate but weighty entry; lots of volume, supple dry tannins and scented top-notes, of little red fruits, raspberry, a hint of cherry.
