Pale. Pure white fruit - pear, peach and a waft of citrus zest. Very silky medium-weight feel. Airy and weightless, crystalline in its purity. Classic Puligny.

Medium yellow. Very ripe aromas of mandarin orange, lemon and nut oil, plus a slightly exotic suggestion of noble rot. Fat, round and sweet; quite silky for village wine. The orange note carries through to a serious, dry finish.

(from 1 ha of evenly mixed vines in Houlières, Charmes and Enseignères). An attractively layered nose is composed mostly of ripe fruit compote, citrus zest and lavender nuances. There is an equally attractive mouth feel to the delicious, precise and energetic medium weight flavors that possess notably better complexity than one usually finds in the average Puligny villages, all wrapped in a clean, dry and focused finale. This is an excellent and age-worthy villages and recommended. 2019+

The 2013 Puligny-Montrachet, which comes from three lieux-dits, has a simple, slightly tertiary bouquet. The palate is taut on the entry with bitter lemon and lime leading to a short but delineated, mango-tinged finish.

(production here was 35 hectoliters per hectare, vs. 22 in 2012, according to Boillot): Bright light yellow. Peach, pear, orange zest and flowers on the nose. Fat, ripe, dry and classic, showing a lovely silky texture for a wine with serious extract. Should make a very strong village bottling with noteworthy balance and length.

A top producer for red and white alike. Henri and his son Guillaume have now moved all the vinification and élevage out of Volnay entirely in order to have all the wine in one place (down on the plain in Meursault). Not so 'folklorique', but a better tool to reach even higher quality levels. After six years working alongside Henri, Guillaume has been entirely responsible for the vinification of the reds since 2013 - Henri's contribution is henceforth entirely on the whites, but one senses this is really Guillaume's show now. Guillaume's major input on the reds was to end the practice of autmatically de-stemming everything - there is now some use of whole bunches and the wines have gained in definition and energy as a result, without losing the luxurious velvety richness and fruit depth that they have always had.
