Blend of 85% Carignano, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot, vinified separately and aged in new French oak 'barriqes' for eighteen months. Full bodied with aromas of spice, fine leather and ripe red fruits, followed by flavours of sweet fruits, licquorice and plums. Finishes with length, freshness and elegance. L&S (Apr 2011)

Nov 18, 2011- Tre Bicchieri - Winemaker Notes - Agricola Punica is a ground-breaking endeavor from Super-Stars of Italian winemaking. Dr. Sebastiano Rosa, architect of Sassicaia at Tenuta San Guido and the President of Catina Santadi Antonello Pilloni. Giacomo Tachis – who helped create the original Super Tuscan, Sassicaia, as well as Tignanello and Solaia, is the technical director. Sardinia is a region steeped in winemaking traditions that is quickly falling into step with the rest of Italy. Dr. Rosa recounts: ‘It was Giacomo Tachis who turned us on to Sardinia and the sweet, soft tannins of Carignano. He convinced us that we could make a great Carignano-based wine… There are few people making wine here, and the potential is tremendous, a similar situation to Bolgheri, but a longer tradition of viticulture. Agricola Punica
Agricola Punica is a joint venture, started in 2002, between Sebastiano Rosa, of the San Guido estate, and the Santadi winery. Oenologist Giacomo Tachis, Antonello Pilloni (president of Santadi) and the Marquis Nicolo Incisa della Rochetta (San Guido - Sassicaia) are also shareholders.
The vineyards are in the southwestern part of Sardinia, the region know as 'Isola dei Nuraghi', planted with Carignano, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah, as well as some Sardinian varieties.
