A nose of purest ripe fruit underpinned by minerals. Pure firm-skinned dark cherry. Chewy richness which develops chocolatey, pain d'épices complexity, all with the fruit. Tasted a second time as a bottled wine, there is a very immediate and natural nose, little red and black berries with a gently tugging undertow of tannin. Undergrowth and humus, and yet precise as a jewel. Very silky texture - a lovely gentle scented style. L&S (Jan 2009)

The star pinot noir at Lea & Sandeman's recent tasting was this gorgeous red burgundy from producers that are new to me and this wine merchant. Be prepared to hear plenty more from Bruno Lorenzon. I adored this stunning, rose perfumed, lively, leafy, superior Côte Chalonnaise premier cru. Traditional red mercurey could be a rather earthy mouthful, but fruit first new wave producers such as Lorenzon show just what can be done. Domaine Bruno Lorenzon
One of life's movers and shakers, Bruno was also involved in a cooperage and while he has now left, he retains the distribution rights in South Africa, where he also makes wine. His small domaine is kept like a garden, and he makes completely exceptional wines almost for the pleasure of being able to. Bruno says "emotion is the key" in making wine exciting.

Pinot Noir.
Mid crimson. Deliciously scented with non-sweet dark-red fruit. Such fine tannins but they really frame the fresh fruit to a T. Vibrant, fresh and rounded on the finish.
