FELTON ROAD
2010 Block 5 Pinot Noir
| Grapes | Pinot Noir |
| Colour | Red |
| Origin | New Zealand, South Island |
| ABV | 14% |
Good dark red. Deep aromas of briary raspberry, dark chocolate, cola and underbrush. Densely packed and rich in extract, with dark berry and earth flavors complicated by a smoky minerality. This has more depth and concentration than all but a handful of New Zealand pinots. Finishes very long, sweet and thick, with plenty of energy for aging. (An earlier bottling was every bit as satisfying and even more appealing in its youth. It showed a candied character on the nose followed by a supersweet, plush, creamy palate, with lovely depth and just enough restraint to its concentrated red and darker berry flavors. I would have been tempted to drink this bottle over the next few years for its uncanny sweetness of fruit.) Rating: 92 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Sept 2012)
