A lovely vintage from Pol Roger which is wonderfully expressive, and yet will continue to develop over the next four to five years into a very elegant and mature wine. L&S (Nov 2010)

(60% pinot noir, 40% chardonnay from 18 grand and premier crus). The slightest hint of sulfur detracts mildly from the otherwise very pretty nose of lemon rind, spice hints and a discreet floral note that complements moderately complex flavors that possess good energy and vibrancy and I like the intensity as well as the notably dry finish that is both crisp and clean. In sum, I like the personality and delivery but this wants for a bit more depth to rise to the next level. In fairness, it may still get there as this remains youthful if no longer young. That said, for my taste, it has arrived at a state of maturity where it could be drunk with pleasure now or aged for another 5 years or so. Rating: 89 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Oct 2009)
The estate鈥檚 1999 Brut Extra Cuvee de Reserve(60% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay) is rich and creamy-textured in its generous expression of honey, apricots and roasted nuts. With some time in the glass, notes of smo-kiness and minerals emerge, adding further complexity. This medium-bodied wine possesses nota-ble harmony and balance, with terrific length and a long, sweet finish. Simply put, this is gorgeous stuff. Pol Roger
Champagne Pol Roger is one of the very few remaining houses still owned and run by the founding family, who remain responsible for the winemaking and selection of the cuv茅es each year. Originally founded in A每 in 1849 by Pol Roger, the firm then moved to 脡pernay in 1851. The First World War had a huge impact on the firm, putting any expansion plans to rest, and Prohibition in America made exports much more difficult. During the Second World War when the Germans occupied France, all production and buying of Champagne was controlled by the Wehrmacht. However, the War caused Winston Churchill to become a prominent figurehead throughout the world, and his love of Pol Roger was widely known. So much so that the House created their special Cuv茅e Winston Churchill in 1975.
