2005 PALEO Bolgheri Rosso Le Macchiole

2005 PALEO Bolgheri Rosso Le Macchiole

Grapes: Cabernet Franc  Origin: Italy, Tuscany
Lea & Sandeman review
Paleo 2005 (100% Cabernet Franc) offers delicious mid-term drinking and is really lovely to drink right now. Ripe and full bodied, with an uplifting acidity that keeps it so very drinkable this is as good as many a claret at twice the price. Parker reckons it is the estate's best wine in the vintage, and he is probably right.

Cabernet Franc on steroids, this is a meaty, earthy treat of a wine that again, is not shy on tannins but its plummy, herbal, tobacco, creamy complexity is accentuated all the more but the freshness of the palate. Oak aplenty but with time this is going to turn into a seriously grand wine. Worth holding on to for a bit longer still.   93/100

Decadent aromas of berries, meat and earth follow through to a full body, with velvety, rich tannins, a long, flavorful finish and a coconut and berry aftertaste. Impressive. Cabernet Franc. Best after 2011. 2,000 cases made   93/100

The 2005 Paleo (Cabernet Franc) is impressive. Wild herbs, roasted coffee beans, new leather, minerals and dark fruit emerge from this long, refined wine. Although the intensity tapers off slightly on the mid-palate, this is an absolutely gorgeous wine loaded with style and personality. Still tightly wound, it needs further bottle age to reach its peak. It is arguably the most successful of the estate's 2005s. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2017.   93/100
