2006 BRAO Vinyes Velles Nobles Bodegas Acústic
2006 BRAO Vinyes Velles Nobles Bodegas Acústic
| Grapes: Garnacha Carignan | Origin: Spain, Montsant |
Lea & Sandeman review
Similar blend to the Acustic (Garnatxa and Samso), but made from the oldest vineyards, between 60 and 70 years old, the oldest recorded having been planted in 1932. The yields here are tiny, as little as 700 grammes of fruit per vine, making for a wine of great intensity. While the Acustic is dominated by young fruit aromas, the Brao is more herbal and spicy. A concentrated wine which is at the same time elegant and fine, with sweet notes and tremendous length.Other reviews and comments
Structured, balanced palate of bright redcurrant, cherry and blueberry fruit with a mineral finish. 2008-2012.
Decanter Magazine
Ancient garnatxa (or garnacha) and samso (cariñena) vines, as many as 80 years old, are the key to this distinguished modern Spanish red wine's quality. Braó hails from Montsant, in northeast Spain; this oozes with rich, ripe, dark bitter chocolate and savoury spice and makes a welcome change from the usual Gallic fare.
Jane MacQuitty, The Times
Raspberry and blackberry flavors are framed by expressive accents of chocolate, licorice and mountain herbs in this focused, lively red. It?s firm enough for food, with lip-smacking acidity. Samso and Garnacha. Drink now through 2012.

The Wine Spectator
The 2006 Brao is a blend of 50% Garnacha and 50% Samso aged for 12 months in French oak, some of it new. Purple colored, it offers a similar aromatic profile but is more structured and fuller-bodied than the Acustic. Layered, bordering on opulent, the wine has superb depth, concentration, and a 40-second finish. Give it 3-4 years in the cellar and drink it through 2026.

Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
(A 50/50 blend of garnacha and samso, which is local dialect for carignan) Inky purple color. Black cherry, cocoa and sexy oak spices on the nose. Fresh dark berry and cherry flavors are brightened by cinnamon and clove, picking up numbing white pepper on the back end. Plenty fat and sweet but also brisk, with suave vanilla and cola character on the lengthy finish.
