2007 POMMARD 1er Cru Rugiens Domaine de Courcel

2007 POMMARD 1er Cru Rugiens Domaine de Courcel

Grapes: Pinot Noir  Origin: France, Burgundy
Lea & Sandeman review
Full, intense, wiry, mineral-structured, much more so than the Epenots, verging on bony, and then fills out finishes suavely on developing plum fruit.

Other reviews and comments
An elegant, pure and ripe nose that resembles that of the Fremiers in that it is cool and restrained while featuring complex red berry fruit, chalk and stone notes that complement perfectly the intensely mineral suffused big-bodied and powerful flavors that are tautly muscled, balanced, mouth coating and impressively long. While this is no better than the Epenots qualitatively, the personality is completely different. A choice. 2015+   90-92/100

Fresh spicy fruit on nose and palate. Some intriguing layers of flavour, with balanced tannins and a long finish.

Very expressive and spicily aromatic on the nose. Explosively fruity on the attack but with a taut structure conferred by firm tannin, fresh acidity and a savoury minerality. Lots of very inky, dark, richness on the mid-palate. A particularly lovely combo of refinement and opulence. Fine to very fine. From 2013/14.

Heady, sinewy. Scented and gorgeous. Lovely round fruit with real zest and freshness as well as ripeness. Well integrated. Quite fresh. A little more febrile than the Clos des Épenots. 2012-2016   17+

Good full, deep red. Higher-pitched on the nose than the Epenots, offering black cherry and menthol aromas. Then vibrant and pure in the mouth, with intense flavors of red fruits and spices. Finishes very broad and long, with dense, spicy tannins and terrific structure to support a slow evolution in bottle. For a wine from a fairly high-pH vintage, this boasts excellent energy.   92-94/100
