Volume, full feel, with a certain energy and grip and direction; muscular, sinewy green fruit, attention-grabbing. A classic from this vineyard, positive, energetic, long.

Quite a step up in quality. Candied citrus fruit on the palate, excellent intensity, lovely depth and tension. It has an excellent steely mineral core which drives the wine to the finish. Fine to fine+. From 2012.

Bright pale yellow. Knockout soil-inflected nose combines lime blossom, crushed stone, wild herbs and clove. Then suave, spicy and aromatic, offering a rare combination of tactile, palate-saturating texture combined with a feeling of weightlessness. Very pure and perfumed wine that rises impressively on the back end, coating the palate with subtle spices. Connoisseur's wine. I should note that some Burgundy hounds of my acquaintance consider the Clos des Mouches to be the most complex and intriguing of Drouhin's whites on a regular basis.
91 - 94/100

Fresh and lemony. Really rather sweet and winning. 2014-2020

Spicy oaky nose, vigorous and nutty. Full-bodied, compact, and elegant; concentrated, but also lifted and stylish. Well balanced and long. Classic. Drink 2012-2020.
****17.5 points

Given the choice between six cases of this or one of Le Montrachet, I know which I’d pick. Aromatic, almost rose petal notes, grapefruit and spice, with lingering minerality. 3-8 years.

The last vestiges of reduction detract only mildly from the otherwise nuanced and welllayered aromas of peach, citrus and white flowers. The rich flavors retain a fine sense of definition as well as a subtle minerality on the suave, silky and explosively long finish. This is a wine of harmony and grace that should age well. 2014+

The 2009 Beaune Clos des Mouches is quite round seamless for a young Beaune. Yellow stone fruits and minerals are some of the notes that wrap around the palate in this striking white from Drouhin. I especially like to focus and energy of the finish. Though fabulous today, I am very curious to see where the 2009 might be headed over the coming years. In 2009 the estate picked the fruit from this site in nine separate passes.

Joseph Drouhin, founded in 1880 and still family owned, are one of the most well respected names in Burgundy, especially through their flagship wine, the iconic Clos des Mouches.
