Vineyard Coeur de Roy

After the tannic density of the Pommard, the Coeur du Roy brings us straight back to the pure, lifted cassis of Gevrey from the limestone. Simply delicious, but there's nothing simple about just how precisely this balance is maintained. Totally fresh and pure.

50- to 100-year-old vines, 75% whole bunch, two-thirds new oak. Very deep crimson again. Plump purple velvet sort of ripe aromas. Lush and flattering with a firm structure and definite acidity. Awkward for the moment but the elements are there. Black fruit flavours. 2016-2024

(from vines of 50 to 100 years of age situated in Epointures, Combe du Dessus and Les Marchais aged in 65% new wood and vinified with ~65% of the stems). A ripe nose features notes of black cherry, cassis and plum that are given added lift from the copious floral nuances. There is simply incredible concentration to the round and suave medium weight plus flavors that possess a velvety mouth feel on the powerful, precise and superbly focused and persistent finish. This explosive effort delivers knockout quality for its level. 2022+

Good bright, dark red. High-pitched aromas of cassis and blackberry complicated by a whiff of truffle. Juicy and intense, with a strong acid spine keeping the dark berry and spice flavors under wraps today. This young, very long wine will need time in bottle to knit.
90 - 92

The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Coeur du Roi is racy, deep and totally sensual. Clean veins of minerality support a core of expressive blue and black fruit. The 2010 is both deep and long. All the elements are beautifully balanced in this impeccable, mineral driven wine. Cassis, blueberries, sweet flower and mint inform the energetic, palate staining finish. Dugat used 75% whole clusters, which gives the wine an attractive aromatic lift throughout. These vines are between 50-100 years old.
91 - 93/100

Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.
