After the frankly rather stunning Montlandrie (Côtes de Castillon), The initial nose on Petite Église slightly disappoints - it seems a little flat after the drive of the Montlandrie. But on palate it has more seriousness, there is a textural density of fine-woven smooth silk, tannins that are fine and full of flavour. Tannic, but like all Denis' wines, the tannins have a succulence missing in many right bank wines this year.

Best second wine in a long time from here. This is so focused with amazing fruit and flowers. Full bodied, with firm tannins and a long, long finish. Best second wine of L’Eglise Clinet since 1995.
92 - 93/100

Berry and toasted aromas on the nose. Concentrated but oak invasive at the tasting. Firm, ripe tannins. Needs retasting when the oak has settled. Drink 2018-2030.

This pure Merlot from the gravel soils of l’Eglise-Clinet was cropped between 27th to 30th September. It has a voluminous, vivacious bouquet, just slightly reductive this sample, but opening nicely in the glass with billowing plum and cranberry fruit. The palate is vibrant with firm tannins, very good acidity, very pure and structured with superb persistency on the finish. This is as beautifully crafted as many Grand Cru. This really should not be this good...but it is!
93 - 95/100

The second wine of L'Église-Clinet. The harvest was September 27th to September 30th, the assemblage 100% Merlot. Rather fresh and perfumed fruit here on the nose, a very primary plum character, concentrated and deep but not dried or raisined which I like - I found this character in a number of Durantou's 'lesser' cuvées. Fresh, showing good acidity beneath the layered fruit here. A lovely quality, opens out very nicely, showing plum and cherry fruit, but all really beautifully integrated. Appropriate tannins for this level of wine, lightly sooty and dark, but still very composed. Firm, grainy, but of high quality. An impressive second wine.

The second label of L’Eglise Clinet is every bit as good as you’d expect in a year like 2010. It’s very oaky at the moment, dense, plush and packed with plum and blackberry fruit, but there’s a sense of a wine that is biding its time, just beginning to integrate in barrel and made for the long haul. 10+ years.

The nose although black fruited is quite fresh. There is sweetness with the richness of black plum on the palate but towards the back it feels lighter and fresher with a nice long finish. There is an elegant charm to the wine. 2018-35
