2010 BARDA PINOT NOIR Bodega Chacra

2010 BARDA PINOT NOIR Bodega Chacra

Grapes: Pinot Noir  Origin: Argentina, Patagonia
Lea & Sandeman review
The 2010 Barda Pinot Noir is simply fabulous, and as Piero Incisa states, not only the best wine he has made to date, but also exactly where he wants it to be in terms of style and quality. This is more elegant, and paler than in previous vintages yet with a fresh intensity that gives great length. Its drinkability is even more enhanced by the significant drop in alcohol to only 12%. Perfect with Thanksgiving and Christmas turkey!

Other reviews and comments
Wonderfully, fragrant, with rose and pot pourri and just a suggestion of sweet, smoky bacon and salted caramel. The palate is effortlessly elegant, light and silky, yet with layers of flavour. Get to know these Bodega Chacra wines if you don't already. You owe it to yourself.   89

Bright medium red. Subtle, high-pitched aromas of strawberry, redcurrant, cherry and spices, complemented by a sweet earthy component. Tangy, light and juicy but also sweet and pliant, with lovely energy and intensity to the red fruit flavors. Finishes with lightly dusty tannins and lingering sweetness. A very successful vintage for this bottling.   88

Argentina, the home of plush, full-throated malbec, is not generally associated with the more elegant, evanescent qualities of pinot noir, but the wines of Bodega Chacra, from the southern wilds of Patagonia, are glorious exceptions. Chacra's pinots are sensual and silky, and this is better than any sub-£20 red Burgundy I've tried.
David Williams, The Observer
Argentina's best pinot noir is rooted in Patagonia, where the 2010 Bodega Chacra Pinot Noir expresses Río Negro's scent, texture and bright mulberry-cherryish purity.
Anthony Rose, The Independent
Delicate fruit; decant and put on (not pour over) ice.

ARGIE BARGY

The odd territorial dispute or football match aside, we seem to like things from the Argentine. From Ricky Villa to the Tango, Eva Peron to corned beef, if it left the dockside in Buenos Aires it'll find a welcoming home in dear old Albion. And nothing finds a good home here more enthusiastically than Argentinean wine. Obviously, we're very much into Malbec here but, as this case proves, there's more to the story than that.

The WINE GANG Pinot Noir case

A selection of fabulous drinking Pinot Noirs as selected by the Wine Gang in their March report. "The Pinot Noirs, all young vintages, were from Burgundy, New Zealand and Argentina and the standard was high. We like the way Lea & Sandeman chooses producers and wines that express their vineyards and regions so clearly," they said, and we couldn't agree more! Taste your way through the selection and see what they mean...

"A youthful, but expressive and sophisticated Pinot Noir from from the wetter, western part of Central Otago. Sweet, fresh, raspberry-scented fruit, some chocolate, mocha and vanilla notes from the oak and a soft, clean, satiny texture. The oak is still quite prominent, but it will recede as other flavours emerge."

"Deep colour, taut, dusty, berry fruit nose, a feel that is lush and creamy, kept in a neat balance buy a long, dry wild berry fruitiness which has just the right level of subtle astringency. Already supple enough to enjoy, this should develop nicely over a year or two."
