Another lovely colour. First nose is undergrowth, but then sweet and rich, very supple and pure. A mineral tug of some force. The palate spreads like a carpet, all intricacy and fine stitchwork, with a bold overall design.

70-year-old vines just above Vosne. Easy fruit with some firmness and a rich, liqueur quality of fruit too. 2017-2027

Good dark red-ruby. Aromas of cassis, spices, game, violet and licorice. Juicy and spicy in the mouth, with moderate flesh and intensity to the dark berry and spice flavors. The firmly tannic but ultimately supple finish shows a medicinal quality to the black fruit, menthol and licorice flavors.

Today the 2011 Nuits-Saint-Georges La Richemone comes across as tight, compact and closed in on itself. This is one of the rare Perrot-Minot 2011s that is going to require time to fully come together. Tar, smoke, licorice and earthy notes inform the explosive, structured finish. The Richemone offers good potential, but it also clearly needs more time in bottle. 2016-2026

The oak is a little prominent now but remains well-balanced in this elegant red. Offers strawberry, cherry and currant fruit midpalate, while mineral and spice accents chime in on the lingering finish. Best from 2017 through 2026.—B.S.

Christophe Perrot-Minot is now the fourth generation of his family producing wine on the estate after his great grandfather Amédée Merme devoted himself to the management and production of wine over 130 years ago. The estate has gone from strength to strength – always keeping the highest standards. Integrated viticulture has been practiced for many years now which has been adapted especially for the terroir. No herbicide or chemical fertilizer is used, instead, Christophe prefers to “stand back and listen to this terroir, only intervening when necessary or when the weather requires it, never systematically.” Visit Website
