Sweet and easy while being full enough. From above and under the premiers crus. The supple attack comes from the clay at the foot of the slopes, while the bright freshness and definition come from the upper part. Lovely village Volnay.

Very pure, supple attack. Juicy wine, some nice plump fruit in the mid palate; velvet tannins and sweetness on the finish coupled freshness and a little minerality just at the end. Good to very good. From 2014/5.

Toasty oak is quite obvious, but not entirely out of place. Has the floral scent of Volnay and good tannic backbone. Juicy, expressive. 2014-2020

(a blend of four vineyards, three of them downslope on clay-based soil): Medium red. Expressive aromas of red cherry, redcurrant, smoke, leather and earth. Round and seamless but also juicy and savory, with a touch of firming minerality on the back end. Suave and dry in a positive way

This is more refined with a cool, pure and distinctly airy nose that is largely floral in character along with notes of essence of red pinot fruit. There is an earthy character to the appealingly vibrant and distinctly mineral-inflected middle weight flavors that possess good detail on the saline-inflected, balanced and ever-so-mildly austere finish. This is a beauty of a villages that could be enjoyed young or aged to good effect as one prefers. 2017+

Nicolas Rossignol is a new superstar in the village of Volnay, making deeply coloured flavourful wines from his own vines and from the fruit of the family vineyard, where the wines were in the past labelled 'Rossignol-Jeanniard'. He has now agreed with his family that he buys all the fruit, and so the wines are now labelled very similarly, either with or without the word 'domaine'. Since these are all vineyards under his sole control thoughout the year, it really does not make any difference which is which. The character of each site shows through all the wines, but perhaps especially in the beautifully balanced Volnays, which incline to a very bright, transparent, incisive style. Sadly 2012, 2013 and now 2014 have all been hit hard by hail, so these wines are getting a bit rare - the volumes have been catastrophically down.
