2012 1er Cru Côte de Léchet Domaine Laurent Tribut

Grapes Chardonnay
Colour White
Origin France, Burgundy
District Chablis
Classification 1er Cru
ABV 13%
Vineyard Côte de Léchet

The 2012 Chablis 1er Cru Cote de Lechet comes from 0.80 hectares: three parcels planted in 1991, 1982 and 1972. It has a light nectarine and peach-scented bouquet that is precise and detailed, although it would benefit from a little more vigor. The palate is fresh and vibrant with pink grapefruit and nectarine on the entry, leading to a light, waxy, textured finish that demonstrates good persistency. Drinking range: 2014 - 2018 Rating: 88 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Aug 2014)

Pale yellow. Pure, calcaire-driven aromas of quinine, mint, minerals and crushed stone, plus a whiff of resiny oak. Densely packed, minerally and quite dry, with a youthful austerity to the concentrated flavors of lemon, minerals and wet stone. Very backward and long on the aftertaste. Should be a beauty but hands-off for five years. Rating: 91+ Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Jul 2014)

(from a .8 ha parcel). A classic, very fresh and ultra-pure Côte de Léchet nose features plenty of citrus influence along with notes of iodine and tidal pool slides gracefully into equally refined and energetic mediumbodied flavors that culminate in a lingering finish where a hint of bitter lemon arises. 2017+ Rating: 88-91 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Oct 2013)

Domaine Laurent Tribut

Laurent Tribut is married to Vincent Dauvissat's sister, Marie Clotilde. When he started he made his wines in the Dauvissat cellar in Chablis, but now this small family-run domaine is based in Poinchy. Laurent has now officially retired and has now handed over to three of their four children (Solange, Adeline and Gabriel), with Solange taking the lead in the winery. With Laurent’s guidance the future here looks very bright.

With just 6 hectares the quantities are small - but the quality of all the cuvées is extraordinary. Pure, powerfully driven, classically shaped there is more than a passing similarity to the wines of his brother-in-law, the head-line grabbing Vincent Dauvissat. Buyers will enjoy these long-lived wines with some time in bottle too - they have a great ability to age and patience will pay off, we recently tasted the 1er Cru Côte de Léchet 2004 with Laurent in his cellar and it was bright, young and full of vigour - nearly 15 years on, and in 2020 the 2000 Beauroy was still in it’s prime. This is brilliant, classic Chablis.
