Pale green-gold. Bright nose, quite a full, soft palate with a contrasting brightness and focus to the juicy pear and greengage fruit. Very pure and supple, mineral lift, and a long fruit-filled finish.

Almonds, hazelnuts, dried flowers, lemon peel and spices meld together in the 2012 Chablis Vaudésir. Rich, open and beautifully textured in the glass, the 2012 impresses for its volume and soft, caressing personality. The warmer microclimate of this mostly south facing site comes through in the wine's resonance and breadth. 2015+

The 2012 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudesir comes from 2 parcels that altogether make 1.5 hectares, one with a southwest exposure in the middle of the slope and the other consisting of very old vines at the top of the slope. It has a very well-defined, mineral-laden bouquet with hints of lemon curd, fresh lime, and hints of the sea (a salty tang that emerges with time). The palate is well-balanced, a little more rounded than the premier cru. It sports very good weight with subtle peach and nectarine notes that combine on the pure and appealing finish. Gorgeous! Drink 2016-2026.

Fresh ginger and powdered stone on the nose. Wonderfully silky and fine-grained; in fact full for Chablis but without any undue weight. Broad, ripe flavors of pineapple, ripe pear, white pepper and dusty stone. Plenty of power here but this is a lovely drink right now owing to its rather soft acidity.

The 2012 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudesir comes from a single parcel. It has a light, apple-blossom bouquet with touches of fresh pear and limestone emerging with time. But it is quite a timid nose considering it is a grand cru. The palate is finely balanced with a slight viscosity, good minerality and acidity, although it needs to develop more cohesion toward the finish.

Tasted assembled from tank, the Drouhins’ 2012 Chablis Vaudesir leads with musky, peony-like floral perfume backed by ripe white peach and toasted hazelnut, which reconvene on a palate of unusual opulence for the vintage. Strong piquancy of peach kernel and toasted hazelnut manage to be fairly well-integrated into a finish notable for its persistence of bittersweet, musky liquid floral perfume. This should be fascinating to follow through at least 2018, though I would be inclined to monitor it regularly for any signs that its bitterness was gaining the upper hand. 2013-2018

Pale greenish gold. One parcel. In 2012 Chablis was in a better state than Côte d'Or, although there was a two-day heatwave in August which burnt the side of the vines exposed to the sun. Then they shrivelled. So the crop shrivelled by 20%. Good tense nose. Good material and a hint of chestnuts. 2016-2025


A deft application of wood sets off the ripe and fresh aromas of mineral reduction, white peach, iodine and tidal pool. There is excellent volume to the round and intensely mineral-inflected broad-shouldered flavors that exhibit fine mid-palate concentration and excellent complexity on the balanced and impressively lengthy finish. This powerful effort should amply reward 6 to 8 years of cellar time. 2019+


Founded in Beaune in 1880, under the name Maison Joseph Drouhin, the domaine has been built up over the years with the addition of new parcels in the Burgundy region and now comprises 73 hectares of vineyards, more than 2/3 of which are classified as Premier and Grands Crus. It is one of the largest estates in the region, and is now also the largest estate in Chablis entirely given over to biodynamic cultivation. Since 2008, the name 'Vaudron' has been associated with all Joseph Drouhin wines from the Chablis region as a sign of the firm's "allegiance to the terroir" and homage to the Moulin de Vaudron, the home of Joseph Drouhin.
