This ruby red Etna Rosso is delightfully intense with a generous helping of ripe, red fruit aromas and a softening touch of vanilla. The less tannic Nerello Cappuccio balances the higher tannins of the Mascalese and together produce a wine of both elegance and character, with a persistant finish. L&S (Apr 2015)

A light ruby-coloured, vibrant red from Etna’s volcanic slopes. 80% Nerello Mascalese and 20% Nerello Cappuccio harmoniously blended and aged in 225-litre barriques for 8-10 months. Beautiful aromas of dried fruits such as strawberry and cherry. Spices and dried flowers. Full body with firm, silky tannins and a long, flavorful finish. A wonderfully firm, silky red from Etna. Benanti

Giuseppe Benanti Jr re-established the Benanti winery on the slopes of Mount Etna in the late 1980's. The family were gifted land there back in the 1730's by a grateful King Victor Amedeos II, but the business had fizzled out in the mid-20th Century. The family now own 14ha of vineyard in carefully selected sites on the mountain, and manage a further 10ha, and have assembled a healthy reputation for some of Sicily's finest wines.
