Class will out as usual, from this plot tucked under Bienvenues Bâtard; just that extra bit of depth and richness. Really very good, with intense fruit that has notes of pear and brioche, and also with good tension and length.

There is just enough reduction to shave the top notes from the otherwise impressively layered nose that combines notes of both white and yellow fruit, tea and a discreet hint of wood. The sleek and supple but well-concentrated medium weight flavors coat the palate with dry extract before concluding in a firm but not especially robust or austere finale. This is less muscular than it usually is but that doesn’t necessarily make it a good candidate for early consumption so at least some patience will be required. 2020+

Aromas of roasted dried fruit and citrus fruit, round and full body with a spicy finish
89 (Feb 2015)

Lightly fragrant with real savour. Hint of liquorice (for the first time in my extensive tastings of white 2013 burgundies!). This is more complete than most with excellent persistence.

Laurent's wife Marie-Anne inherited half of her family's property, the Pommard domaine of Pothier-Rieusset, and he and his father have now bought the other half. The wines from this domaine represent excellent value, and they age very well too, despite being attractive young. Laurent's 1992 Grandes Ruchottes came top of a tasting of wines of that vintage in 2012, ahead of some supposedly much 'grander' domaines. Laurent manages to pack in a lot alongside his running of the vineyard. He has a sophisticated microlight which he flies to all corners of France, he keeps and hunts hawks, and conducts the Chassagne brass band as well as dabbling in Mayoral duties - on top of being a father.
