This is made from 25- to 35-year-old vines farmed organically on sandy soil. It has a pretty, rose-scented aroma with cranberry fruit and herbaceous notes. It's a light style with inviting perfumed red fruit and fine tannins. One to enjoy on a summer's day. Rating: 91 Sarah Marsh MW, Club Oenologique Magazine (Aug 2016)

Splendid, rose-scented, crunchy cranberry-fruited Loire red that knocks spots off the competition. Made from the dusky, herbaceous, lighter cabernet franc grape, it makes a jolly summer slurp, taking happily to a dip in the ice bucket. Jane MacQuitty, The Times (Jul 2016)

Cabernet Franc has suddenly moved from also-ran to icon, but in the Loire it's been a hero for generations, producing a distinctive, fresher, crunchier style than in warmer southern hemisphere climates. Yannick Amirault's textbook example has a perfume of violets and blackcurrants and a rounded palate infused with black fruit, subtle spice and a leafy freshness. The tannin is low enough to try it with fish. Rating: 89 The Wine Gang - www.thewinegang.com (Apr 2016)

A sample taken from wooden cuve. Wow, a lovely perfume on the nose, very expressive and elegant. The palate is rich with perfumed fruit, also a polished texture, the weight of a riper vintage here showing well against the 2012s and 2011s just tasted. Polished, some exotic fruit notes here, with wild plum, wild black cherry, and a supple composition, the tannins well buried within the substance of the wine. An impressive showing. Domaine Yannick Amirault

Yannick Amirault took over three and a half hectares of vines from his grandfather 30 years ago, and today with his son Benoit works 12 hectares in Bourgeuil and 7 in St-Nicholas-de-Bourgeuil. The vineyards have been worked organically for 15 years and have been certified Organic since 2009. The family are seriously talented in the cellar and not shy of trying new things - the new Malgagnes cuvée which ages in their special Jarres are testament to this. Everything is hand harvested and hard work in the vineyards means only the very best fruit is brought in. Only natural yeasts are used, with fermentations being allowed as long as they need. These wines are crisp and bright with a dramatic purity - made as naturally as possible but without having any unsatisfactory 'natural' traits. Incredible quality here across the range.
