A finer more chiseled minerality, touch of fennel, then fig and lemon fruit backed by some toasty oak. Lovely immediate richness of citrus, peach fruit on the palate then cut by a chalky minerality, toasty oak, ripe, poised with good length.

The 2014 Pouilly-Fuissé les Crays Vieilles Vignes has another compelling bouquet, not quite as refined as the Verchere, but delivering gorgeous citrus fruit, white peach and melted butter scents that gain intensity in the glass. The palate is clean and fresh on the entry, hints of rosewater and orange zest on the entry, gaining more and more acidity as it unfurls in the mouth to leave you completely satisfied by the finish. Absolutely delicious.
92 (Jan 2016)

Pale yellow. Subtle aromas and flavors of pineapple, white peach, crushed rock, menthol and wild herbs. Juicy, brisk and penetrating but edge-free; boasts terrific mid-palate energy and lift. Very fine-grained and suave but less open than the La Verchère Vieilles Vignes. The long, rising finish leaves behind a tactile element of dusty stone.
91-93 (Dec 2015)

(from 60+ year old vines located in Vergisson). Strong reduction flattens the underlying fruit at present. Otherwise there is terrific intensity and minerality to the delineated medium weight flavors where the minerality is so prominent as to make the mouth feel akin to sucking on small pebbles, all wrapped in a tight, linear and strikingly persistent finish. This beauty appears to have outstanding upside development potential and is highly recommended. 2021+

Daniel and Martine Barraud's vineyards have been in the family since 1890 and with their son Julien now helping to run the domaine - they represent the fifth generation of the family to be making wine here. Most of their 8.5 hectares vines are in Vergisson and are mostly high up under the famous rock (Vergisson lies between the two dramatic cliffs of the rocks of Solutré and Vergisson).

The vineyards here are significantly higher than those of Fuissé, and consequently later-ripening, and the wines often have a more solid structure - but all Daniel's wines have their own character, from the Puligny-like directness of the La Roche to the fat, almost California-like 'en Buland', via the mineral force of the Crays.

This wine isn't currently part of a mixed case, but you can always browse our full selection of mixed cases here.
