“The 2014 Riesling The Merle Reserve is youthfully mute though still displays an aromatic array of citrus, yuzu and crushed stones accented by peach blossoms and hints of white pepper and coriander seeds. Light-bodied and dry, the very crisply defined palate is taut and needs time. It finishes long and steely” 93+pts eRobertParker Rating: 93 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, www.RobertParker.com (Aug 2016)

“100% Polish Hill River fruit from the Thickett Block. The whitest of all the Pike 2014 Rieslings. Steely nose. An architectural sculpted wine, that reminds me of the bare bones of a skyscraper. Long and complex and deep. Very green, very embryonic, very hidden away, very much a wine to leave well alone for now. (TC)12% Drink 2015-2025” 17/20, Jancis Robinson Drinking range: 2015 - 2025Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Aug 2016)

“Brothers Neil and Andrew Pike celebrated their 30th vintage at Pikes in the Polish Hill River district of the Clare Valley in 2014. The Merle is their top Riesling, the expression of slate soils tapped by mature vines from two blocks in the family vineyard. The brothers’ attention to detail begins in the vines, with an eco-friendly approach that comes close to organic, including mulching and mid-row cover cropping. Minimalist, modern, temperature controlled winemaking preserves delicacy and vineyard definition” 18.5/20 (95pts) Decanter Magazine Rating: 95 Decanter Magazine (Aug 2016)

Pikes Polish Hill River Estate

James Suckling writing about Pikes in 2018 says 'They’re good, consistent wines packed with soulful interest, offering great value.' We certainly agree and are delighted to still be working together after more than 20 years. Owned by the Pike brothers, one of whom (Andrew) was for many years the senior viticulturist with Southcorp, the other (Neil) a former winemaker at Mitchells. Pikes now has its own winery, with Neil Pike presiding.

Generously constructed and flavoured wines are the order of the day, but wines which also have a restraint and a drinkability far ahead of some of the 'maximum one glass' reds that seem to dominate Australian shows and exports.

This wine isn't currently part of a mixed case, but you can always browse our full selection of mixed cases here.
