A rare opportunity to get your hands on this very limited arrival - in celebration of the Rugby World Cup. Reinforcing the combination of Ernie’s sporting and vinous links, three years ago Ernie Els Winery was selected by The South African Rugby Union (SARU) to make a wine specifically for their use at official and sponsored events. As the name “SA Rugby” is a registered trade mark, the winery pays certain royalties to the union. With much success along the way, the 2014 vintage becomes the third release from the collaboration, following the 2010 and 2012 vintages. A blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, it showcases the greatest attributes of Stellenbosch a red blend yet is produced in very small volumes. L&S (Sept 2015)

This delicious, full bodied red blend provides a barrage of fruit flavours on the palate. The strong Shiraz component adds spiciness and the lesser Cabernet Sauvignon component provides the richness. Expect a vivid display of complexity with layered cinnamon, fynbos, liquorice and sappy red berry fruit. There is excellent balance between the crystalline acidity and the creamy textured finish. Exotic and energetic now, this wine will improve in the cellar. Aged for 12 months: 80% in 300 litre French Oak barrels + 20% in 300 litre American Oak barrels. Winemaker's notes (Sept 2015)

In 1999, Jean Engelbrecht and the South African golfer Ernie Els cemented a long-standing friendship by establishing Engelbrecht Els Vineyards, and in December 2004 opened their dream cellar on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain in Stellenbosch. The winemaker since the very beginning has been the very talented Louis Strydom.
