Domaine de la Mordorée's Lirac Blanc is a white like Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc ought to taste, but so rarely does. A mix of six grape varieties, Viognier, Grenache Blanc, Picpoul, Bourboulenc, Roussanne, Clairette and Marsanne gives a precise and floral nose, real succulence to the fruit, making a characterful southern white which still remains lithe and fresh on the finish. A revered producer far more famous for its red wines as is the region, nonetheless, this moreish, textural blend of Marsanne, Picpoul, Viognier, Bourboulenc, Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Roussanne has a delicious creamy weight to support the elegant combination of melon, apples and apricots. Roast pork with crackling on the side? Yes please. Rating: 90 The Wine Gang - www.thewinegang.com (Mar 2017)

I always seem to turn to the white wines of the Southern Rhône at this time of year and while white Châteauneuf-du-Pape often catches my eye, this year a rare white Lirac is in pole position for my turkey and goose enjoyment. Exotic, full and lusty with a fair whack of sweet oak, nutmeg and cinnamon coupled with peachy, succulent fruit, this is undoubtedly a heavily upholstered wine. Before it gets too boudoir-like on the palate though the acidity and structure lines up the finish and it goes off like a firework of sheer joy. Epic and sophisticated, you cannot look anywhere else for insanely carnal white-wine thrills this Christmas. (Money Week)Matthew Jukes www.matthewjukes.com (Dec 2016)

Bright, green-tinged straw. Fresh melon and nectarine scents are enlivened by suggestions of honey, chamomile and candied orange. Fleshy, expansive and dry, offering juicy pit fruit and melon flavors and a subtle touch of succulent herbs. Smoothly combines heft and vivacity and finishes long, seamless and floral, displaying a lingering hint of poached pear. Domaine de la Mordorée

Started in 1986 by the Delorme family, Domaine de la Mordorée has become one of the top estates in the Rhône, with arguably the most consistent quality. The word 'Mordorée', literally 'bronze' or 'golden-brown' is one of the many poetic names for a woodcock, the symbol of the domaine. Other such names include the cuvée names - 'La Belle Voyageuse' (the beautiful traveller), and 'La Dame Rousse' (the russet lady). Founding winemaker Christophe Delorme's objective was to be unintrusive and maintain total respect for his terroir and the fruit it produces, striving to achieve a perfect balance between concentration, terroir and balance.

The domaine consists of 55 Hectares, on 38 different parcels, providing a rich, wide range of soils and micro-climates. The whole domaine has been certified organic since 2007.

Following Christophe's untimely death in 2015, his wife and daughter, Madeleine and Ambre, have taken on the running of the domaine, ably assisted by Rémy Chauvet, who was the cellarmaster under Christophe. As Jeb Dunnuck has put it in the Wine Advocate, 'the estate is obviously still in incredibly capable hands'.
