Lea & Sandeman review
Jean-Louis Denois’ sparkling wine from near Limoux, from vineyards planted with Champagne grape varieties. Pinot Noir for body, and floral fruity distinction from Chardonnay. A 'great copy of Champagne' and 'amazing value'. JUBILEE OFFER: Case price reduced from £12.95.Other reviews and comments
From Limoux. Pale golden straw. Beautifully made and balanced – just a little fruitier, more opulent and less autolytic than the best champagnes but infinitely better than cheap champagne. GV

A 50/50 Chardonnay-Pinot Noir blend. Tiny bubbles, bready Pinot-dominated nose, broad fruit with soft maturity and elegance, beautifully made, naturally balanced low 6g/l dosage. Very satisfying. Decanter March 2011

Denois is a Champenois by birth, but makes sparkling wines from his base in Roquetaillade, in the Aude department of the Languedoc...this wine is a competent alternative to Champagne, with 50% each of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Here is a magnificent wine of a quality rarely attained by French sparkling wine... The wine is fleshy with a rich and vinous body, a nose both powerful and elegant of fruit and brioche, fine and persistent bubbles, a balanced fresh palate with a beautiful finish: Un vin gourmand!

With its warm bread-and-honey nose this smells so much like champagne I had to double-check the label to confirm it’s actually made near Limoux. To taste, you might say a touch of rusticity gives away its origin, but I love the generous flavour of red apple, and would buy this by the crate if I were getting married or throwing a party. Amazing value.

Great value copy of champagne (half and half Chardonnay and Pinot Noir) from the hills around Limoux in the far south west of France. Denois is a maverick but a conscientious winemaker. This highly individual wine is ready to drink, attractively dry and has quite positive fruit.
