2006 CHÂTEAU TALBOT 4ème Cru Classé Saint Julien

2006 CHÂTEAU TALBOT 4ème Cru Classé Saint Julien

Grapes: Origin: France, Bordeaux
Lea & Sandeman review
Attractively blackcurranty scented, a slightly edgier palate than some, marginally leafy. Taut wiry fruit and good length.   90/100

Other reviews and comments
Good colour, fine concentrated blackcurrant fruit, quite rich and backed by robust tannins, fragrant slightly gamey fruit that will open up early and ensure a good future. 2012-25.   ****

Dark crimson. Tobacco leaf notes on the nose - rather drying tannins on the finish. A little bit pinched. Far from opulent! 2014-20   16

This price seems to the pushing the top end of expectations, but given the current prices of Talbot of lesser vintages it is hard to complain too much. This is still maintaining its position as a good primeur banker buy. SPECIAL OFFER £220 ON 3 CASES +, so buy in several sizes!

Saturated, bright red-ruby color. Enticing aromas of cherry, cassis, leather and minerals. Suave on entry, then nicely balanced in the middle, with a restrained sweetness to the berry and mineral flavors. A clean, fruit-driven Talbot that finishes with broad tannins, a minty nuance and surprising length.   87-90/100

Very perfumed, with violet and currant character. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long finish. Juicy young wine. Impressive.   89-91/100
James Suckling, The Wine Spectator
The 2006 Talbot is a more seductive, possibly sexier wine than the 2005, which is seemingly more reserved in that top-notch vintage. The 2006 exhibits sweet, olive-tinged black cherry and currant fruit, soft tannin, a heady attack, good freshness and acidity, and a lush, fleshy finish. It will drink beautifully in 4-6 years, and last for two decades. 2011-27   89-91/100
Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
Very little on the nose which displays some underlying greenness. Blackberry, wild hedgerow, cut grass and a touch of toffee. The palate is medium-bodied with furry tannins, lacking a little harmony and focus with supple, red-berried finish. Well integrate new oak, I think this will improve a point or two in barrel.   88-90/100
