The 2008 Mazoyères-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru has an attractive nose with plenty of red berry fruit, leather, dessicated orange peel and light minty aromas. There is a little more fruit concentration here compared to its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with slight hard tannins on the entry, but these gradually soften. Quite spicy at first, I admire the cohesion here and there is fine purity. Christophe Perrot-Minot told me that he did a lot of sorting in this vintage and it shows. Dark red-ruby. Deep aromas of black raspberry, animal fur and game; this smells powerful! Then sweet, silky and very ripe, with terrific grip and verve-not to mention peppery lift-to the black raspberry and spice flavors. This very complex but youthfully reticent wine build inexorably on the back end, ultimately showing explosive fruit on the finish. Perrot-Minot picked until October 7, noting that the top sites in Gevrey-Chambertin came in at the end. Rating: 93 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Oct 2010)

Cedar, resin, licorice, cardamom, blackberry, and plum paste in the nose of Perrot-Minot’s 2008 Mazoyeres-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes migrate onto a palpably extract- and tannin-rich (albeit fine-grained) palate, accompanied by deep richness of beef stock. The juicy, tart yet ripe fresh fruit edge keeps this from becoming austere, as medicinal herbal extractions, iodine, peat, and crushed stone saturate the palate and leave your mouth a quiver but practically exhausted. This take-no-prisoners expression of its site should be at least a 15-20 year keeper. (June 2010) Rating: 94 David Schildknecht, The Wine Advocate (Sept 2010)

A discreet application of wood allows the less elegant but more complex nose ripe dark berry and black raspberry fruit aromas that also possess plenty of Gevrey character merge into rich, full and very generous sweet and textured medium full-bodied flavors that deliver plenty of punch and outstanding length. While presently very approachable, there is a firmer core of buried tannins supporting the tautly muscular mid-palate that will probably cause this to close up once in bottle. Rating: 92-94 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jul 2010)

Domaine Christophe Perrot-Minot

Christophe Perrot-Minot is now the fourth generation of his family producing wine on the estate after his great grandfather Amédée Merme devoted himself to the management and production of wine over 130 years ago. The estate has gone from strength to strength – always keeping the highest standards. Integrated viticulture has been practiced for many years now which has been adapted especially for the terroir. No herbicide or chemical fertilizer is used, instead, Christophe prefers to “stand back and listen to this terroir, only intervening when necessary or when the weather requires it, never systematically.” This is one of the star domaines of the whole of Burgundy.
