Lea & Sandeman review
'Kalk und Schiefer' translates as slate and limestone, which is what this Blaufrankisch is grown on, giving great minerality and focus to the deep, bright fruit. If this were from Burgundy or Piedmonte it would be twice or even three times the price.Other reviews and comments
Mid to dark purplish crimson. Very ripe and vibrant on the nose - a real statement. Lots of juice and assertive character that would not ring a bell with many non-Austrian tasters. A very valid style indeed. Refreshing while rewarding - and it certainly doesn't taste in any way 'weak' despite the relatively low alcohol level. Bravo!
