Most impressive fruit on the nose, juicy blackcurrant and blackberry, ripe but not overripe, precise, and a supple and charming start, with a core of steely firmness. Some slightly dusty oakiness needs to combine with the fruit, but this shows promise. Finishes strong and firm in a postive way. Rating: 89 L&S (Apr 2009)

The 2008 Clos de l’Oratoire (13.5% natural alcohol, and the same blend) is brilliant, a top-notch effort for the vintage. From the estate’s 25-acre vineyard planted on clay and limestone soils, this wine has a dense plum/purple color and a sweet kiss of mulberry, black cherry and cassis, with some subtle barbecue smoke and leafy underbrush notes. Medium to full-bodied, opulent and fleshy, this wine (Stephane Derenoncourt is the consultant) is already drinking beautifully and will continue to do so for 10 or more years. Rating: 89-91 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, www.RobertParker.com (Apr 2009)
The nose is quite muted with faint scents of brambly red-berried fruits and a touch of earth. The palate is nicely balanced with good acidity, quite sharp but fresh and focused with nice weight on the cedar-tinged finish. Correct and delicious. Rating: 89-91 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Apr 2009)
Deep crimson. Dark black fruits. Sweet and rather fine and polished. Dry finish. Not as succulent as its stablemate Canon La Gaffelière. Lot of dry tannin. 2014-20 Rating: 16.5 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Apr 2009)
Clos de l'Oratoire
Located on Saint-Émilion's north-east slope, the Clos de l'Oratoire estate dates back to the mid-19th century to the Beylot family, Libourne based négociants. In the 1969 Saint-Émilion reclassification, Clos de l'Oratoire was ranked Grand Cru Classé. The 10.32 hectares of vines grow on clay-limestone and Fronsac molasse on the upper part of the slope, and clay-sand on the lower part of the slope, a terroir which is enitrely suited to the Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grape blend. The average age of vines at Clos de l'Oratoire is 35 years, and grapes are all hand harvested into small crates to avoid bruising. Since 1991, the estate has been under the charge of Comte Stephan von Neipperg, who inherited part of the vineyard from his father Joseph-Hubert, Graf von Neipperg.
