Lea & Sandeman review
Billed as Stellenbosch's most 'feminine' Cabernet Sauvignon, this certainly is immediately very seductive and very elegant. Fine on the nose, with whiffs of oak (24 months in new Taransaud oak 'barriques'), blackberry fruit and just a note of mint, without a hint of the leafiness so often associated with SA Cabernet. On the palate this exudes Bordeaux class with a touch more ripeness to both the fruit and tannins that you might find in the Medoc. Exceptionally fine, the oak is well integrated and there follows a lovely strain of acidity keeping it balanced and fresh through to a very long finish. Difficult not to drink immediately on release, but almost certainly capable of ageing over a good decade or more. Really quite remarkable Cabernet which bears all the hallmarks of Mme de Lencquesaing.Other reviews and comments
A convincing Bordeaux-style, even though the blend is hardly traditional: 91% Cabernet, 9% Petit Verdot. Classic structure - restrained dark fruit on layered tannins; it carries its hefty alcohol very well.

Decanter Magazine
A solid, muscular style, exhibiting very Bordeaux-like notes of dark tobacco, mulled black currant and coffee up front, followed by a loamy edge on the broad, cassis bush-tinged finish. Lots of rugged character should flesh out nicely with modest cellaring. Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2012

The flagship 2008 Lady May is a blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Petit Verdot that is raised for 24 months in new French oak. It has a very controlled, refined bouquet with intense blackberry, raspberry and cedar aromas with just a slight pepper/herbaceous edge. The palate is full-bodied with firm, grippy, austere tannins and superb balance that makes this so fresh and vibrant. There is a sense of symmetry and control that May-Elaine has imported from Pauillac. With great tension and persistence on the finish, this is a Bordeaux blend that merits cellaring. Drink 2014 - 2020+

"Selected from a combination of the younger Cabernet (Sauvignon and Franc) and Merlot vines and wines destined for but selected out of the flagship Rubicon blend. The Cabernet Franc is pronounced on the nose, with green leaf and cloves, but the palate is full of juicy fruit and a crisp acidity. "
