There’s power here but carefully exercised. Cedary flavour with soft edges on the palate even with great freshness. Sour, mealy freshness, complex rather than winningly attractive.

White chalky aroma, very pure, lifted and slightly saline. Streamlined and savoury minerality, versus the more aromatic, mineral Narvaux. This is sappy, stony and tight. It pounces on the palate and on the finish. Particularly Good+. From 2013

Pale color. Reticent aromas of lime, stone and lily. Densely packed, juicy and penetrating, with crushed stone and mineral flavors joined by a hint of pineapple. Quite dry and backward, displaying excellent acidity for the year. I'd hold this for a few years and drink the En Luraules and Narvaux first.

This has a more “creamy” nose, something of a patissiere with almond and a touch of coconut. The palate is well balanced with orange peel, apricot and a touch of walnut, harmonious towards the finish but lacking a little weight. Fine.

The 2009 Meursault Les Chevalieres blossoms on the palate with layers of beautifully articulated fruit. White flowers and crushed rocks appear later, adding considerable brightness and focus. All of the elements build gracefully to a finish marked by considerable nuance and energy. The finish shows plenty of nuance and energy. These vines, planted in 1940, are Jobard-s oldest. This is simply gorgeous juice. Anticipated maturity: 2013+.

There is a lot of sweet fruit yet the freshness of apple and lime, layers of flavour ensure complexity. The ripeness on mid and back palate gives a fleshy richness yet on the finish the fresher flavours take over and lift the fruit.

Domaine Rémi Jobard: Full Wine List and Profile
Rémi has been been making small qualitative changes ever since he took over here. The entire vineyard is cordon-pruned, so yields are naturally limited. There has been no use of fertiliser since 1994, and the vineyard is grassed-over to encourage the vine roots to go deep. The entire domaine is certified organic from 2008. Rémi says that the two most important things are the absence of weedkiller (and thus the necessity to plough, which cuts any surface roots and makes the vine go deeper) and not adding any fertiliser which again makes the roots go deeper to find nutrients. Remi has two vast new presses, to enable him to press very slowly over six hours, and is sure that this has resulted in a big jump in finesse. The élevage now lasts nearly fifteen months, so as to allow the wines to develop slowly and to avoid fining. As a result these are wines which take a moment to show, but which reward the patient with complexity and great depth of flavour. One of the absolutely top domaines of the Côte de Beaune, and still at prices that are well, well below his qualitative equivalents.
