2009 PIED DE NEZ Cellier de Marjorine
| Grapes: Syrah Marselan Grenache | Origin: France, Languedoc-Roussillon |
Lea & Sandeman review
Supple characterful medium-bodied red from this young Corbières producer. A well-defined lightly smokey ripe blackberry fruit with tannins that are present but ripe and satisfying rather than painfully grippy, making for a great weekday supper or bistro wine. More serious than the jokey label implies, but to be enjoyed rather than worshipped.Other reviews and comments
That a Languedoc red such as this is nearly £8 is a sign of rising prices. But it's worth it: sweet, smoky fruit and chewy tannins - attractive.
Andrew Neather, The Evening Standard
Another value for money wine like you wouldn't believe. A fabulous blend of Marselan (a Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache hybrid grape) together with Rhône favourites Syrah and Grenache. An all singing, all-dancing and yet subtle balance of herbal earthy flavours and jam-packed fruit. Bright acidity with a meaty, firm finish.

"Dark, with good dark fruit expression too, while remaining no more than medium-bodied. Dry like a Bordeaux, spicy from Syrah, with an elegance and nicely defined whiff of black pepper. Really attractive, drinkable wine for a very sensible price."
