2009 PINOT NOIR Two Rivers of Marlborough
2009 PINOT NOIR Two Rivers of Marlborough
| Grapes: Pinot Noir | Origin: New Zealand, South Island |
Lea & Sandeman review
Bright Pinot with good fruit, this breaks the Marlborough mould of just being fat and oaky, with a more serious precise edge to it - earthiness, spice, elegance and freshness that make it very drinkable indeed.Other reviews and comments
Sourced from two north facing, low yielding vineyards at an elevation of up to 1000 feet in the Awatere Valley. The
grapes were hand harvested and gently destemmed before undergoing fermentation by naturally occurring “wild” vineyard yeasts. Whole bunch clusters were added to the ferment for an increased lift in aromatics and structure. The resulting wine
was aged in both new and seasoned French barrels for 11 months with intermittent stirring of the malolactic lees for increased palate weight and mouthfeel.
An elegant style of Pinot Noir with an intense aroma of dried herbs, wild red fruit and earthy spice. There is real energy and pace here, bright red fruit with charred cherry, a silken blend of power and finesse. The wine is framed by quality oak and firm yet fine grain tannins. The Two Rivers ‘Awatere Selection’ Pinot Noir is a fine cool climate example from one of Marlborough’s special micro-climates.
