2010 CANTERBURY Pinot Noir The Crater Rim
| Grapes: Pinot Noir | Origin: New Zealand, South Island |
Lea & Sandeman review
Back in stock after a momentary hiatus. From now on the Crater Rim 'Canterbury' Pinot is sourced from basalt soils on the peninsula formed by one side of the 'crater rim' itself of the huge volcano in Waipara. A slightly broader, denser style than the 2009, it is full and long on the finish.Other reviews and comments

The WINE GANG Pinot Noir case
A selection of fabulous drinking Pinot Noirs as selected by the Wine Gang in their March report. "The Pinot Noirs, all young vintages, were from Burgundy, New Zealand and Argentina and the standard was high. We like the way Lea & Sandeman chooses producers and wines that express their vineyards and regions so clearly," they said, and we couldn't agree more! Taste your way through the selection and see what they mean...
Marlborough South Island New Zealand
"From Marlborough at the northern tip of New Zealand’s South Island – this juicy, up-front Pinot delivers lovely, plump red fruit and tasty black pepper spice. The glossy sheen stops well short of jamminess and this makes a delightful – excellent value Pinot Noir. A rare treat in a sea of charmless, sweet, thick 'fruit-soups' usually found at this level."
IGP Hauterive Languedoc-Roussillon France
"A dense Pinot with a silky feel and notes of black cherries and cassis. Really quite surprised us as it does such a good job of melding Pinot freshness and finesse with a bit of Mediterranean muscle. If nitpicking you could say it's a little rustic, but better to be crunchy and fresh than soupy and sweet (we thought) and this is certainly a lot of Pinot for the money."
