Lovely fullness and brisk precision. Perfect Bourgogne really. Virgile makes this from one hectare he owns and another hectare bought in, all from the villages of Chambolle, Morey and Gevrey, all from vines that are over fifty years old. Black fruit and a quilted, downy feel.

30% whole cluster; mainly from Morey, some from Gevrey and some Chambolle; so 6 parcels in total. Big tank 6000l and make it as a whole. Red fruit; spicy; soft and rounded. Rather a gentle and appealing wine. Bit of spice at the end. It pleases. On release.

(from 50+ year old vines in Bons Bâtons, 30% whole cluster). Mild reduction knocks down the nose but the underlying fruit appears to be ripe. There is good verve to the delicious, clean and detailed middle weight flavors that possess good freshness on the lingering and saline-inflected finish that displays a hint of acid tang. 2015+

Virgile Lignier's wines have a lovely combination of enough body and richness, combined with a lively clarity of expression. The old vines village cuvées are seriously good, and great value too. Going up the scale each site seems to speak very clearly of its source and there is a brightness and energy along with full, seamless fruit.
