COATES & SEELY Rosé Brut Britagne

COATES & SEELY Rosé Brut Britagne

Grapes: Pinot Noir  Chardonnay  Origin: United Kingdom, England
Lea & Sandeman review
Salmon pink in colour and beautifully aromatic (cranberries, strawberries and a touch of brioche) this is immediately appealing. The palate shows mid-weight red berry fruit and a lovely sherbet acidity which keeps the wine fresh and long in the mouth. Very impressive given that it comes from the Hampshire Downs and rivals many of its counterparts from over the channel.

Other reviews and comments
Another excellent newcomer is the Coates & Seely Rosé Brut Britagne NV with its fragrant nose of red berries and super-refreshing palate of crisp, sweet mulberry fruitiness stopped dead in its tracks by an underfoot cranberryish, sherbety tang. Its co-founder, Christian Seely, has chosen the name Britagne in an attempt to get the name accepted as a term for champagne-method English sparkling wine. This provocative step has brought orchestrated resistance to what's seen as a Frenchification of an English practice.
Anthony Rose, The Independent
A sumptuous, juicy and refreshing strawberry-filled rosé with mouth-watering crispness. Made from two grape varieties, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.

This simply stunning wine has electrifyingly pure English acidity, with a beautifully balanced 9g/litre of dosage, leaving a lingering hint of strawberries on the finish. (65% Pinot Noir, 65% Chardonnay) Tom Stevenson's The Best English Sparkling Roses. Decanter Magazine December 2011   4 stars
