2015 Aszú Disznókő
|Grapes||Zéta, Furmint, Hárslevelú|
A stunning value alternative to the more expensive Puttonyos Tokaji, commemorating the year that the original Disznoko Estate was first recorded. Made from grapes effected by noble rot, this is a cracker of a dessert wine, plenty of rich citrus fruit, with a bright lemon acid and a nice whiff of botrytis, a perfect partner to foie gras, soft cheese or fruit desserts. L&S (Jan 2019)
*Case price discount: Mix any 12 bottles (or 9l equivalent) of wine or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits, Sweet Wine or Fortified to get the 'case price' for each bottle.
Bright golden colour. Beautifully fresh, peachy nose, with great purity. Rich, however just slightly sweet palate with fresh juicy white fruits flavours. Fully integrated salivating acidity, mineral finish with elegant bitterness, great balance, harmony. Winemaker's notes(Apr 2019)
Jasmine honey and frangipani. Quite delicate, despite the luscious sweetness. Could do with just a bit more delivery of that linear Furmint acidity to freshen up the finish. Drinking range: 2019 - 2025 Rating: 16 Tamlyn Currin - www.JancisRobinson.com(Feb 2019)
The name Disznókő - the rock of the wild boar - was first recorded in 1413 and refers to a large rock sat atop a small hill overlooking the vineyards. Listed as a "first growth" as far back as 1732, this 150ha vineyard in the south west of the Tokaji region has long been regarded as one of the region's finest.
As with much of Tokaji, Disznókő's fortunes suffered under nationalisation during the Communist era. But, in 1992, it was purchased by AXA Millésimes (owners of Château Pichon Longueville and Quinta do Noval, amongst others) who have reinvigorated Disznókő and put in the love and investment required to return it to the top rank of Tokaji estates.
Time to fortify yourself against the winter chill. Wines to sip from small glasses whilst relaxing in a cosy armchair, slippers on, in front of a blazing fire. Fino sherry to liven the mind before dinner; a complex and luxurious Amontillado; Port both Tawny and Ruby; some red dessert wine from Maury to enjoy with some fine and dark chocolate; some warming Madeira; a selection of fine sweeties from classic regions; and a small bottle of super-sweet but oh so wonderful Pedro Ximenez.
