Graves & Pessac-Léognan
Whilst most of the attention is lavished on the Haut-Médoc to the north of Bordeaux city, to its south lies the gravelly soils of the Graves boasting one of the great famous names of the Left Bank – Château Haut Brion. The northern end of the Graves has been separated off into a separate appellation – Pessac-Léognan – and it is here, some nestling among the suburban sprawl of Bordeaux itself, that you will find the Haut Brion family of estates and other estates like Château Smith Haut Lafitte.

This looks to be a very good Domaine de Chevalier, with excellent colour, round and harmonious, fresh compared with many of the Graves, though lacking a bit of grace in the mid-palate.
