For most people, the first region anyone thinks of when thinking about Italian red wine. Chianti and Sangiovese dominate the region. Chianti covers a wide swathe of central Tuscany, much it a long way from the original Chianti Classico district between Florence and Sienna. Consequently the name Chianti can be applied to all manner of wines from all manner of wineries, but well-chosen they can be very good.
