Brunello di Montalcino
Brunello di Montalcino is one of the great names of Italian wine, something recognised when it was the first wine to be granted the elevated Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) status in 1980. The vineyards are centred on the hill-top Tuscan town of Montalcino, a little way to the south of the Chianti Classico. The wine must be 100% Sangiovese, from a particular clone specific to Montalcino.
