2021 POMMARD Vignots Domaine Remy & Fils
Côte d'Or Burgundy France 13% Red
Pinot Noir.
Really quite smoky oaky on the nose, but on the palate this translates to an attractive spiciness. Structure a little angular for now, but this is showing well, with a finish with a density of fruit which should have no...(read more)

2020 POMMARD Tavannes Domaine Fernand & Laurent Pillot
Côte d'Or Burgundy France 15% Red
Pinot Noir.
The 2020 Pommard Tavannes is excellent, unfurling in the glass with aromas of cherries, sweet spices, licorice and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with tangy acids and chalky tannins, it will age with...(read more)

2017 POMMARD 1er Cru Charmots Domaine Fernand & Laurent Pillot
Côte d'Or Burgundy France 13.5% Red
Pinot Noir.
Enticing fine fruit nose with a touch of smoke. Refined palate. Good structure to the dark fruit. There is substance and freshness, but it is the elegance of this site which comes out above all. Will repay a short time i...(read more)

2016 POMMARD 1er Cru Charmots Domaine Fernand & Laurent Pillot
Côte d'Or Burgundy France 13.5% Red
Pinot Noir.
2016 Pommard Charmots - This is drinking really well now. Probably Pillot's wine of the vintage! Ripe and forward. Still some primary fruit but edging towards something tertiary. Touch of tobacco and mushroom with dried...(read more)

2015 POMMARD 1er Cru Croix Noires Domaine de Courcel
Côte d'Or Burgundy France 13% Red
Pinot Noir.
Again ripe and rich. There's a sweetness here, and a lift despite the fruit being so blackly concentrated and powerful. Finish has tiny sensation of the whole bunch fermentation, but this carries and lifts the fruit.

2014 POMMARD 1er Cru Grand Clos des Épenots Domaine de Courcel
Côte d'Or Burgundy France 13.5% Red
Pinot Noir.
(80% of this vineyard was affected by hail in 2014): Dark red. Reticent but pure aromas of redcurrant, smoke and crushed herbs. Distinctly tight and a bit lean but opens out on the back end, showing good breadth and juic...(read more)

2002 POMMARD 1er Cru Grand Clos des Épenots Domaine de Courcel
Côte d'Or Burgundy France 13.5% Red
Pinot Noir.
Although very fat and richer - more so than the Fremiers, even having a dense tarry element, the Grand Clos is still fresh and lively. Tannins are quite powerful but entirely in balance with this large-scaled wine. Excel...(read more)

2017 POMMARD 1er Cru Clos des Épeneaux Domaine Comte Armand
Côte d'Or Burgundy France 13.5% Red

Tasting this in the cellar, the final wine is not yet complete so we tasted the 2 constituent parts and then a final blend put together by Paul. The first part (40%) comes from the younger vines which are between 35 and...(read more)

2002 POMMARD 1er Cru Clos des Épeneaux Domaine Comte Armand
Côte d'Or Burgundy France 13% Red
Pinot Noir.
As usual we taste the wine first in components by vine age, then a rough assemblage of the final blend. The old vines did particularly well this year, so they form the largest part of the blend, then the 45-50 year old v...(read more)

Powerful nose, and immediately appealing in the mouth. Lovely balance - a real straight-up classic - damson and cherry fruit with well-judged oak all coming together to make a very handsome fellow indeed, straight-backed...(read more)
