2015 BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO - Pre-release Offer
This is the best opportunity to secure these fantastic wines at the lowest prices before they arrive in the UK before this summer (2020). 2015 comes very close to the great 2010 vintage in terms of scores.
We are delighted that Giodo & Fuligni are two of the eleven wines awarded 100 points by James Suckling in this vintage. It is isn't all about points however and Collemattoni, as always, represents excellent value for money. Although not awarded the magic beans, this estate has also benefited from the excellent growing conditions and produced another superb wine that is worth adding to your cellar alongside the 100 pointers.

‘Ask anyone who farmed Sangiovese that year. They will tell you: Fruit has never been more beautiful than it was in the picture-perfect 2015 vintage.’
Monica Larner – Wine Advocate
‘Depth of fruit and endless length.’
'The words for the 2015 vintage are density, tannins and freshness. The wines are rich, yet they are fresh at the same time. It is a great year’.
This tiny, seven hectare, estate in San Angelo in Colle, on the warmer clay of the southern side of the hill of Montalcino is run by Marcello Bucci. A fantastic winemaker who studied oenology under Roberto Fuligni's aunt. He is making wonderfully good wines which keep increasing in both quality and international recognition.
In 2013 he has released a beautifully balanced, sleek and refined Brunello Riserva. It's a smooth, fruit-forward style - as is often the case on this warmer site - but the vintage provides ample freshness and you can already sense the delicious savoury undertones that will emerge with time in the cellar. This has a long and very bright future ahead of it.
2014 posed all sorts of problems in the vineyards of Montalcino but this site escaped the worst of it. Marcello was ruthless in selection and hasn't tried to push too hard in the winery, producing a brightly fruited Brunello of great aromatic purity and outstanding drinkability. This will be a great value Brunello that will be ready almost immediately on release. A triumph in a tricky year.

Our first release of 2015 Brunello di Montalcino comes from the brilliant Fuligni, an estate co-owned by Roberto Guerrini and his delightful aunt, Maria-Flora Fuligni. Roberto makes the wines with oenologist Paola Vagaggini, while agronomist Federico Ricci looks after the vineyards.
Our relationship with Roberto goes back to the mid-nineties. We have always loved the wines here, which combine the concentration and elegance of the best of Brunello. They can be drunk more or less from release, and are so perfectly balanced that they age beautifully.
‘Roberto Guerrini made the wine of his lifetime in 2015’.James Suckling, jamessuckling.com
Fuligni’s vineyards are some of the highest and coolest in the area, perched on the slopes to the east of Montalcino and this gives them enormous advantage, ensuring a finesse and elegance that others struggle to imitate.
Roberto’s wines are classically proportioned, with restraint and a poise that is astonishing - and 2015 is a huge success for him as Roberto himself says -

Loaded with red berries with real bite and even a lemony, bergamot note creeps in. Such freshness. And then some richer, softer, darker flesh builds weight and a svelte, sexy plumpness is perfectly tempered by softly polished, super-fine tannins. There is a feel of crushed rock dust and then that enveloping fruit wight comes back - all so perfectly underpinned by a juicy line of acidity. Wow, what balance! This is immediately delicious and is already hard to resist, yet it has everything in spades - perfect harmony and a very long, exciting life ahead for the patient.L&S(Feb 2020)
Podere Giodo di Carlo Ferrini
'Eleganza, Eleganza, Eleganza' is the mantra of the enigmatic Carlo Ferrini who has once again crafted a beautifully focused, sleek Brunello from his own immaculate, small estate (just 5 Hectares) - Il Giodo. Fast becoming another cult classic, this is a beautiful vintage from the Tuscan superstar, who after years of advising the greats is putting his huge expertise into his own vineyard, 2015 is his sixth vintage here.
Jancis Robinson notes this latest release as follows: 'Rather sumptuous nose. Very well made with perhaps a hint of smart oak on the nose. Neat and tidy. With masses of freshness.'
Carlo is striving for elegance at Il Giodo and his 2015 Brunelllo is a triumph. This personal project is already developing Ferrini's trademark characteristics of finesse, elegance and a bright, fine feel.
With limited production and incredible provenance, it is no surprise that these wines are in huge demand and heavily oversubscribed.
