Artner

Austria, Carnuntum

Winemaking in Carnuntum, half-way between Vienna and Bratislava, dates back to Roman times. The Artner winery can trace its origins back to 1650, when it was part of a more mixed agriculture. Since 1980 the family has focused on wine.

Loess and limestone soils as well as the continental-Pannonian climate with the cooling influence of the Danube to the north offer ideal conditions for viticulture. In the 40 hectares of vineyard they are in the process of organic certification, and work as closely as possible with nature, with cover crops between the rows and even planting trees to attract more insect life.

There is a wide range of wines, with a particular emphasis on red wines, but we have picked out their Grüner as offering exceptional value
