Champagne-Heidsieck

Charles Heidsieck

France, Champagne

Founded in 1851 by 29 year old Charles Camille Heidsieck, the original 'Champagne Charlie'. Charles Heidsieck was the very first champagne merchant to travel to America, and is credited with popularising champagne over in the USA. In 1862, Heidsieck decided to invest in cellars dating from the 2nd century, rather than buying land for vineyards - henceforth placing more importance on the careful selection, ageing and blending of the wines, whilst leaving the viticulture to the experts in that field. In 2012 Cécile Bonnefond took on the position of CEO at Heidsieck after spending 8 years working for Veuve Cliquot.
