Château Haut Couloumey

France, Bordeaux

A promising property, of only 6 hectares, with its first vines planted in 1998. Production was sent to the co-op until 2003, when the first vintage was made in its own chai.

The vineyard is 86% Merlot, with just 7% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, planted on sandy gravels, grassed over between the rows, and managed with 'lutte raisonnée'.

In the chai the grapes are manually sorted before going into small capacity stainless steel tanks (45-80hl) which allows for vinification by parcel. Vinification is traditional, with delestage and pigeage. Micro-oxygenation is used during the malolactic fermentation.
