Domaine Bruno Cormerais

France, Loire

A family domaine of 28 hectares. Bruno's son Maxime took over from his father in 2014. The property is in the south-west corner of the appellation, and the soil here is granitic, so, as they put it, "un terroir granitique pour un Muscadet atypique" - an atypical Muscadet from an atypical terroir. The main difference here is how wonderfully intense the wines are. Serious and beautifully shaped - the minerality keeps the wine so focused and taut. The wine needs time - Maxime makes some cuvées that he keeps for over 8 years on their lees - the wine we most enjoy is a less intellectual affair - the 'Vieilles Vignes'. This spends the maximum time allowed on the lees - and then he keeps for another year in bottle before he is happy for it to be drunk. It is well worth the wait! Delicious pure and long. Think shell-fish think lightly flavoured white meat dishes or simply enjoy as a crisp long aperitif. A super new find.
