GRAHAM

1983

Origin Portugal, Port
District Vintage Port
ABV 20%

Still quite tight-knit on the nose, mid-weight with gentle, rather lovely cherry fruit and a spicy vestige of the firm tannins that were the hallmark of the 1983 vintage at the outset. Holding together well, 10-20 years ahead of it. (in Decanter.com) Drinking range: 2019 - 2035 Rating: 94 Richard Mayson, www.richardmayson.com (Nov 2019)

The nose has filled out a bit with some nice sweet black fruits showing. The mid palate is rich ripe and sweet, layers of flavour giving complexity and although there are hints of hazel nuts on the back palate the finish is lush and sweet fruited yet has a stylish elegance. 2013-20 Rating: 93 Derek Smedley MW, www.dereksmedleymw.co.uk (Dec 2013)

Not as intense a crimson as the 1980. Quite a wide colourless rim. Burnt, sweet, almost charred nose. The overwhelming impression is one of slightly simple sweetness. Can’t see any tannins left here – until the very end. Jewel-like – sort of rubies in a glass. Exceptionally rich and on the finish quite delicate in fact. Rating: 18 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Aug 2010)
